post splenectomy vaccination
Patient who have undergone splenectomy either due to shattered spleen due to blunt trauma or due to hemolytic problems should be given vaccination to cover for Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae type B, and Neisseria meningitidis. Patients should be advised prior to discharge on the risk of overwhelming post splenectomy sepsis and their immunocompromised state.
Appendectomy
During my first year in surgery I did 38 appendectomies, 15 during second year another 40 during my third year in general surgery residency.
